Updated Patient information 23.03.2020

As the situation with coronavirus (COVID-19) has developed over the last few days, the care of our patients’ health and wellbeing remains our top priority.

We are following guidance issued by the HFEA and fertility professionals such as the British Fertility Society, as well as Government’s general advice about COVID-19.

To minimise viral spread, and to ensure that all activity is carried out to a safe standard, we have taken the decision to suspend all new treatment cycles and associated investigations until further notice.  We will, of course, update you on changes as they are agreed.

We understand how much your treatment means to you and we are very sorry that it has become necessary to take these steps; we appreciate that this has resulted in cancelling treatment, and appointments, at very short notice. I’m sure you will understand that the safety and wellbeing of our patients and staff has to be prioritised.

For more information, please read the below:

Frozen Treatment Cycles

With the exception of FETs taking place on Monday 23rd March, all frozen treatment cycles have been suspended.

Fresh Treatments that have already started

We will continue treatment for patients who have already started a fresh treatment cycle, and are already taking stimulation medication.

Patients who have started ovarian stimulation for IVF may still have an egg collection.  However, we will be freezing embryos after egg collection has taken place.  Once we are in a position to safely recommence treatment cycles, Frozen Embryo Transfer cycles will be arranged.

Counselling

We appreciate that this is a very unsettling time for patients.  Our counselling service still continues to be available for all patients; this may be arranged on a virtual basis.  Jane, our counsellor, will contact you personally to arrange a suitable method.

Storage of Embryos and Sperm

Please be assured that your frozen eggs, sperm and embryos continue to be safe and monitoring of our laboratories will not be affected during this time.

Consultations:

Consultations will continue to take place; these will now be carried out over the telephone for the foreseeable future.  If you already have an on-site consultation booked, we will contact you to arrange for this to be done over the telephone.

If you would like to arrange a new consultation, please contact us on 01482 382648, there will be no charge made for telephone consultations during this time.

We understand that these are extremely upsetting and stressful times.  If you need any further advice or support please contact us by emailing enquiries@hullivf.org.uk or by calling 01482 382648.  Our team will continue to be available to answer your calls and provide the necessary support.

We wish all our patients, friends and family the very best wishes during this unsettling time.
